DENVER -- Utah Valley University true freshman utility Hailey Kofler has been named the Western Athletic Conference's Hitter of the Week. The honor was announced Monday by the league office and marks the third consecutive week that a UVU student-athlete has claimed the conference's weekly award for softball.
The Temecula, Calif., native extended her current hitting streak to a season-high five games last week after recording a hit in each of Utah Valley's four games. In all, Kofler posted a WAC-best .636 batting average after going 7-for-11 with three doubles, a home run, and three RBI. She doubled in each of the Wolverines' first three games of the week and homered in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader against Utah State.
For the season, Kofler is second on the team in batting with a .317 average. She leads the team with five home runs and has also driven in 15 runs.
This is the second time that Kofler has received the Hitter of the Week award, earning her initial honor on March 10 after batting .462 with three home runs in four games at the Rebel Spring Games.
Grand Canyon's Taylor Nowlin earned the WAC's Pitcher of the Week award, dethroning UVU's Josi Summers who had won the honor each of the past two weeks.
Kofler and the rest of the Wolverines will play four games this week beginning with a single game Tuesday against Idaho State. That game gets underway at 3 p.m. and precedes the start of the WAC season on Friday when UVU travels to face Bakersfield for a three-game, two-day series.
