CHICAGO -- Utah Valley remained in a tie atop the Great West Conference standings Saturday with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-23) victory over Chicago State.
A total of 15 Wolverines saw action in the straight-set victory. Jaicee Kuresa paced the Wolverines with seven kills, while Sarah Clement and Katie Fritzler added six each.
Patti Flagg led the Wolverines with 12 digs, and Rachel Anderson added 23 assists.
"We had the opportunity to get everyone in and play," UVU volleyball coach Sam Atoa said. "It was nice to have a team effort."
With the win, the Wolverines improve to 17-7 overall and 6-1 in league play. They are currently in a first-place tie with North Dakota, which played at NJIT Saturday afternoon.
In the win over the Cougars, the Wolverines hit at .323, while CSU hit just .139. UVU also had six service aces to Chicago State's four.
Behind kills from Clement and Lindsay Barker, the Wolverines jumped out to a 4-0 lead in Game 1 and never looked back in winning 25-15.
In Game 2, the Cougars jumped out to a 4-1 lead before a kill by Anderson and a service ace by Kalani Norris gave the Wolverines the 7-6 lead. The Wolverines never led by more than four points the remainder of the game. CSU cut the lead to 20-19, but the Wolverines scored the last five points to win 25-19.
Chicago State led for the majority of the final game before UVU scored three straight points to take a 17-15 advantage. The game was tied three more times -- with the last coming at 23-23. Clement and Kuresa posted back-to-back kills to close out the game.
The Wolverines return to action Oct. 27 and 29 when they host Houston Baptist, which handed UVU its only conference loss, and Texas-Pan American, respectively.
