UVU Travels to Logan to Face Utah State Tuesday

OREM, Utah -- The Utah Valley University volleyball team will conclude its five-week-long 12-match road stretch Tuesday by traveling to Logan, Utah to face Utah State. The Wolverines are 7-4 during their time away from home and are 1-2 against in-state teams so far this year.

The Wolverines are 9-7 on the season and 2-0 in Great West Conference play after winning their first two conference matches of the season last week. UVU came from behind in both contests to defeat both Texas-Pan American and Houston Baptist in five sets on the road last week.
UVU fell behind 2-0 at UTPA on Thursday but was able to rally to take its conference opener 3-2 (25-27, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-10). Senior Erica Nish led the Wolverines offensively with 11 kills while freshman Bailey Farris finished one kill shy of a double-double with nine and 12 digs and fellow freshman Lauren Stringham added eight kills and nine block assists.
The Wolverines then fell behind 2-1 at HBU on Saturday and were trailing late in the fourth set by six points but rallied once again to take the match (25-18, 18-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-12). Utah Valley was led by 16 kills apiece from junior Lindsay Morrell and sophomore Kalani Norris and 15 from Nish. Nish and Stringham led the Wolverines at the net as they each tallied six blocks and sophomore McKenna Tait secured the back row with a career-high 33 digs.
For the season Stringham leads the Wolverines in kills with 112 and a .296 hitting percentage. Nish is right behind her with 108 and also averages 2.12 kills per set. Stringham also leads the squad in blocks with 83 (nine solos and 74 block assists) and a 1.32 block per set average.
About Utah State
The Aggies are led offensively by Rachel Orr and Shay Sorensen and their identical 184 kills and 2.88 kill per set averages. Elle Brainard leads USU at the net with 94 blocks (four solos and 90 block assists) and a 1.47 block per set average. Her teammate Kaitlyn VanHoff is right behind her with 85 blocks (five solos and 80 block assists) and an average of 1.33 blocks per set.
Tuesday's matchup between the Aggies and Wolverines will be the 10th all-time meeting. USU holds a slight 5-4 advantage but UVU has won the last two meetings including a 3-2 win in Logan two years ago and a sweep in Orem last year.
